Critical Thinking is the analysis and evaluation of facts to form accurate understanding and judgment. It’s an active command by which the reader is mindfully aware of her thinking—how it changes and evolves as she reads. During reading, she knows when her understanding is on point and when it’s faulty; importantly, she knows how to keep adjusting her thinking to become “one with the author.”
A critical thinker in reading
(1) must be able to follow an author’s logical development of ideas, which means moving with the author: identifying key connections within and among paragraphs, recognizing relationships among ideas, and making shifts when necessary,
(2) must be able to interpret what is literally said and implied to attain accurate comprehension, and
(3) must be able to gather information from different points of the text and/or from multiple texts and synthesize.
I am a time-served and qualified coaching professional, and I‘m prepared to help. Parents, teachers, and school districts, act now! I can show you how you can foster critical thinking. Contact me.
